Postal Savings Bonds

Postal Savings Bonds were issued in lieu of Postal Savings deposits or certificates in denominations of $20, $100, and $500. They were issued, in registered or bearer form, on January 1 and July 1 of each year. The maturity date was 20 years from the issue date and the interest rate was 2 1/2 percent.

The issuance of Postal Savings Bonds was discontinued on July 1, 1935. The securities were replaced by U.S. Savings Bonds.

Bondowners, their survivors, or their representatives can redeem a Postal Savings Bond by completing the back of the certificate and submitting it to:

      Definitive Section
      Bureau of the Public Debt
      P.O. Box 426
      Parkersburg, WV 26106-0426

If you submit a bond for redemption and we need more information or documentation, we will contact you.
