Error in Bond Registration
Name or Address

A savings bond doesnt need to be reissued to correct a minor typographical error in the name or to correct the address. However, if the error in the name could possibly cause confusion in determining ownership of the bond, the bond should be reissued. To reissue the bond:

Social Security Number

A savings bond also doesnt need to be reissued to correct an error in the social security number, but you need to report the error so we can update our records. If we dont have the correct information, it may be difficult to locate the record of your bond. Also, if the social security number is incorrect on a Series HH/H bond, interest income won't be reported correctly to the Internal Revenue Service.

To correct or change a social security number or employer identification number, see Correcting/Changing a SSN/EIN on HH/H Bonds.
