Reissue Isn't Necessary!
You don't need Series HH/H bonds reissued simply because your address changes.
However, we need to know where to send your year-end interest statement and
other correspondence. If you're receiving interest payments by check, we also
need to know where to send the checks.
HH/H Bond Owners
If you're a Series HH/H bond owner and want to change your address, you can
update your account online using our free HH/H Internet
Services.
To request a change by mail:
- send a completed Form PD F 5257
or
- send a letter with your address change information, including your social
security number.
If you need to send us information, see How to
Contact Us.
Deceased Bond Owner
If you're a surviving co-owner, beneficiary, or the legal representative
of an estate of a deceased Series HH/H bond owner, you may continue to
receive interest that's due on the bonds without redeeming or reissuing
the bonds. See Death of a Series HH/H Bond
Owner for more information.
Acting for a Bond Owner with a Power of Attorney
If you've already sent an acceptable copy of the power of attorney, you can
change the address on the bond owner's account by sending:
- a completed Form PD F 5257
or
- a letter with the address change information, including the social
security number on the account.
If you need to send us information, see How to
Contact Us.
If you haven't sent a copy of the power of attorney for approval, you need to:
- Send the original power of attorney document or a certified copy. The
document must bear a visible seal or stamp, certifying the signature of the
bond owner. It needs to also be worded to authorize the attorney-in-fact to
receive, endorse, and collect Series HH/H interest payments.
- If the power of attorney is more than three years old, furnish a statement
advising that the document is in full force and effect.
- If more than one person is named as attorney-in-fact in the document, the
change of address request must be signed by all who are named.
- Provide the serial numbers, the social security number, and name on the
HH/H bonds and the address to appear on the account.
If you need to send us information, see How to
Contact Us.
Guardian or Conservator for a Bond Owner
If a bond owner is unable to act on his or her own behalf, a guardian or
conservator may be appointed by the court to act for that person. If an
acceptable copy of the letters appointing you as guardian or conservator
was already sent, you can change the address on the bond owner's account
by sending:
- a completed Form PD F 5257
or
- a letter with the address change information, including the social
security number on the account.
If you need to send us information, see How to
Contact Us.
If you haven't sent a copy of the letters of appointment as guardian or
conservator, you need to:
- Send a certified copy of the letters of appointment. The seal on the
letters must be visible. If sending by fax and the seal is embossed, rub
over the seal with carbon paper or lightly with a pencil and the seal will
be visible on the faxed copy.
- Provide the serial numbers, the social security number, and name on the
HH/H bonds and the address to appear on the account.
If you need to send us information, see How to
Contact Us.
