Reissue Isn't Necessary!
You don't need savings bonds of any series reissued simply because your
address changes. However, depending on the bonds you own, you might need
to notify us of your move...
If You Own Series EE/E Bonds or Savings Notes
If you own Series EE/E bonds or savings notes, you don't need to advise
us (Public Debt) of your change of residence. We don't keep track of
your address and we don't need to know where you live when you want to
cash your bonds. However, the bank cashing the bonds will request your
current address for tax reporting.
If You Buy Bonds through a Payroll Savings Plan or Bond-A-Month Plan
If you buy bonds through your employer's payroll savings plan or through a
Bond-a-Month plan where you bank, notify your employer or bank right away if
your address changes. The Post Office won't forward bonds sent to your old
address, but will return them to the Federal Reserve Bank that printed them.
To avoid a delay in delivery, send the address change on a regular payroll
savings or Bond-A-Month authorization form as soon as you can. Make sure
you send the appropriate form to your employer or bank (not to the Bureau of
Public Debt or a Federal Reserve Bank)!
